Mannheim – Lots of new things at engelhorn – Le Corange and fifth floor renovated

Mannheim / Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region.[GPRA]Le Corange and fifth floor rebuiltLots new at engelhornA lot is happening at engelhorn in downtown Mannheim: the one-star restaurant le Corange has been redesigned and not only looks good changed, but also enriched its menu with a very special specialty, dry aged fish. The renovated design area for men on the fifth floor of the fashion house has a completely new look and a different concept.

Although the houses and restaurants had to remain closed for many months in 2020 and this year, the engelhorn team has still worked on the future: "We were hit hard, but we didn't despair for a minute and still started new projects", explains Fabian Engelhorn, CEO of engelhorn. One of these is the refurbishment of le Corange, which specializes in fish specialties and has a Michelin star. Opened in 2006, le Corange was the first engelhorn restaurant, and opening it was a dream come true for the late Richard Engelhorn. In the meantime, le Corange has become a fixture among gourmets at home and abroad. With the redesign, engelhorn has emphasized the character of a French "Restaurant de poisson" even more. White in many nuances garnished with delicate blue creates a relaxed, uncomplicated and maritime atmosphere. As before, guests can look straight into the heart of le Corange, the kitchen, and observe the concentrated work of the team around chef Igor Yakushchenko.

Sustainability and regionality

Of course, the map has also changed. The principles of sustainability and regionality have come to the fore. Freshwater fish such as char, trout and Bavarian shrimp play an important role. Particularly gentle preparation methods such as sous-vide cooking at low temperatures enable new taste experiences. “We also want to be sustainable. While the meat or fish is usually hermetically sealed in a plastic bag, we use glass containers,” says Igor Yakushchenko.

dry aged fish as an absolute specialty

Dry aged fish promises a very special inspiration for the palate. So far, only very few restaurants in Germany have offered this specialty. "We almost have a unique selling proposition," explains Igor Yakushchenko. The head chef promises: "The fish meat tastes incredibly intense, you can even feel the texture very finely - a real treat." So that the guests can experience this, a lot of effort is necessary. As with dry aged beef, the interplay of temperature and humidity is crucial for the maturing of the fish. "The process is very demanding," reports Igor Yakushchenko. His team has been working on the preparation method for many months, tinkering intensively and preparing it. "We are very proud to be able to make such an offer to our guests," emphasizes Fabian Engelhorn. Le Corange has been open since September 22 from Tuesday to Saturday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Reservations can be made at gastro@engelhorn.de.

New design world for menThe fashion house has also been busy planning and remodeling in recent months. On an area of almost 700 square meters, bright, spacious and minimalistically appealing, men's clothing awaits from trendy and trend-setting brands such as Balenciaga, Dries van der Noten, Fear of God, Acne Studios and Palm Angels. On another 450 square meters, engelhorn presents streetwear from brands such as Stüssy, Aris and Undercover. In addition to clothing, there is also a large selection of sneakers, boots and loafers. "We want to make it easy for customers to find their way around," says Managing Director Armin Weger, explaining the concept. "That's why we brought together the different types of shoes - from sporty to elegant, from sneakers to winter boots - that were previously to be found in the sports store or in the fashion store on different floors, with the appropriate clothing in one place." They want a part of the area Mannheimer again and again to offer previously less well-known brands in Germany a shop window. "An opportunity like this is a great opportunity for designers, and our customers benefit because they can always discover something new with us," says Armin Weger.

Fabian Engelhorn already has further plans: "The starting signal will soon be given for the conversion of the women's design department, which we will complete by spring 2022." The other floors will then gradually follow: "engelhorn never stands still. We are always working to improve ourselves for our customers."Photos: The le Corange offers gourmet menus of the highest quality - with an extraordinary view over Mannheim.Source: Felix ZeifferBright, spacious and minimalistically appealing: the new design area for Gentlemen in the fashion house.
