Reverse Cat Eye: This make-up trend isn't just for professionals

Yay! Finally there is a make-up look for everyone who prefers to avoid the color pot when it comes to eye shadow. We already know and love smokey eyes. The reverse cat eyes now turn our favorite look upside down: the dark eye shadow is not applied to the eyelid but to the lower lash line and is therefore different from the traditional look.

Reverse Cat Eyes - He started the trend!

Makeup artist Spencer (@paintedbyspencer) recently started the trend on TikTok. Since then, thousands of users have recreated the iconic look that we've often seen on Kim Kardashian. But the first look at the video is shocking: Spencer starts with a thick, black line under his eye! Maybe that's why more than two million people clicked on his video - just to see what is to come of this supposed false start.

Face lift included

We love the cat eye shape for several reasons: It not only makes our eyes look bigger, but by emphasizing the lower lash line, the make-up trend also cheats us into an almond-like eye shape à la Gigi Hadid. Another plus: the cat-eye technique optically lifts our eye area – because the eye shadow is blended upwards towards the temples, which leads to an immediate lifting effect.

Preparation is everything

For the perfect "reverse cat eye" look, you should first prepare your eyelid and lower lash line with an eye shadow primer or concealer. Simply apply generously and work into the skin. Then you fix your base with some powder - this way the make-up look stays in place for a long time.

Step by step to the trend look

Now take a slanted eyeliner brush and go into a medium brown eyeshadow of your choice. Pat the brush well so you don't pick up too much product. Then you press the color very close to your lower lash line. It is best to start in the middle and slowly work your way to the outer corner of your eye, following the natural shape of your waterline. Arrived at the outer eyelid, you now lead the line a little further up, similar to if you were to draw an eyeliner.

Blending is the most important step to the perfect finish

Now grab a very small, pointed brush to blend the still hard black line on the lower lash line. In windshield wiper movements you go over the line you just drew. If too much color is lost during blending, repeat the previous step again, building up the color until you are satisfied with the intensity.

This trick will visually change the shape of your eyes

The inner corners must not be neglected when applying makeup to the look. Because only the emphasis on the small tip in the inner corner of the eye leads to the desired cat-eye effect. The best way to do this is to use a brown, waterproof Kajal pencil. Here, too, you simply follow your natural lash line with the kajal and carefully feel your way to the right shape. A Q-tip is your best friend! Soak the cotton swab in makeup remover and touch up any mistakes.

The look is intensified with kajal or eyeliner

If you prefer a very dramatic look, you can still use black kajal or gel eyeliner. To do this, roughly apply the product to the lower and upper waterline. The more extensively you distribute the product, the more intense the look will be.

Don't forget the crease

A gentle definition of the lid crease is a must with this make-up look. This is quickly done with a fluffy brush and light brown eye shadow. Apply and blend the eye shadow as usual. Finally, add mascara and voilá - the reverse cat eyes are done!
