Lady Gaga has revealed a secret about her outfit, which she used for her performance on the day of the inauguration of US President Joe Biden in January. The pompous robe in which the 35-year-old sang the national anthem was "bulletproof".

She revealed this in an interview with British "Vogue". "It's one of my favorite outfits I've ever worn. I wore this Schiaparelli robe at the swearing-in ceremony. And no one knows, but it's a bulletproof dress."

Moreover, she explained of the large golden bird emblazoned across her left breast: "When I saw this golden dove of peace, I just knew it was the right piece." It also meant a lot to her to wear a dress from an Italian fashion house, Schiaparelli Haute Couture. "It was something I really, really wanted to do for my heritage as an Italian-American woman who would sing for the 45th President's farewell and the 46th President's invitation," the singer recalled.

"Sometimes fashion can give you wings"

The ensemble consisting of a navy blue jacket, the large gold dove brooch and a voluminous red silk skirt was specially made for her by Daniel Roseberry, creative director of Schiaparelli.

In the interview, Lady Gaga also touched on a special moment on what was already a special day: walking onto the stage alongside a naval officer. "When I was talking to this young man and he asked me if I was nervous. And I said yes! But sometimes fashion can really give you wings. Like a dove."

Singing the national anthem at Joe Biden's inauguration was what Lady Gaga described as "the greatest honor of my life" in an interview with the US magazine "People" in February 2021.
