"DIY store look" or just casual? - Scholz outfit becomes an internet hit

What is the dress code for a chancellor? In day-to-day political business, he usually wears a suit and tie. In the case of Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach, it used to be a fly. Olaf Scholz is – at least since he was chancellor candidate – usually without a tie, but of course always in a shirt and suit.

His look during his flight to the USA is now causing a stir. Casual with a t-shirt and sweater, that's not how Olaf Scholz is known. On a ten-hour flight across the Atlantic, however, he apparently also needed a bit of relaxation.

Praise and ridicule for Scholz outfit

And Pulli-Olaf promptly went viral on social networks. While some describe his outfit as a "hardware store look", entertainer and presenter Micky Beisenherz even sees a certain resemblance to Til Schweiger.

Others, on the other hand, find the Scholz look rather wrong. "Not everything was better in the past, but some things were," writes a Twitter user.

The SPD parliamentary group, on the other hand, takes it easy. Inspired by the Scott McKenzie song "San Francisco", she tweeted: "If you're going to Washington DC Be sure to wear some sweater in the air" - roughly translated: "If you're going to Washington, you have to definitely wear a sweater on the plane."
