Annoyed by the Windows taskbar? How to get rid of the weather widget & Co

But what does "News and interesting topics" actually do? Microsoft describes the new feature quite well in a blog post. It is a new module that is clearly visible on the right-hand side of the taskbar and shows the current weather there, matching your location. If you click on it, a window opens that shows a news ticker and stock prices in addition to the weather app.

This feed can be personalized, i.e. you can specify which news you are interested in, and according to Microsoft, it should not only be ad-free now, but also in the future. You can also adjust the display in the taskbar, either displaying the icon and text or just the icon a little narrower.

Currently, you can only see the new function on the primary monitor and only when the taskbar is docked at the bottom of the screen in the classic way.

If you click on one of the entries, for example to find out more about an interesting topic, the new Edge browser opens and displays the corresponding article. Speaking of Edge, the new browser is a prerequisite for the new function and according to Microsoft, the feed could soon appear directly in the browser. At the moment, Microsoft doesn't give a damn which standard browser you have. The new taskbar function is therefore a powerful means of bringing users into the in-house browser. Of course, when you click on the weather forecast or stock prices, you end up with hard-wired Microsoft services.

As far as we can tell so far, there are no third-party modules that can be integrated.
