A Star Wars veteran announces his return for a mysterious new Star Wars project

Though Anthony Daniels has been an integral part of the Star Wars universe since the original trilogy, his face is relatively unknown. No wonder, after all, we know him primarily as the man who squeezed into the tight golden outfit of C3PO for all nine parts of the Skywalker saga and also for "Rogue One". He also lent his voice to the droid in the animated feature film "The Clone Wars" and the accompanying series. He also had a brief appearance in Solo: A Star Wars Story, not as C3PO, but as thief Tak, enslaved by the Pyke Syndicate. So Anthony Daniels is the quintessential "Star Wars" actor. Now the C3PO actor has posted a picture revealing that he is currently working on a new "Star Wars" project.

The picture shows Anthony Daniels in a motion capture suit. This is used to transfer the actor's real movements to a computer-animated character. Daniels writes: “Finally a new suit – it fits!” and provides the post with the hashtags #c3po #iamc3po and #starwars, among other things.

"Star Wars" novelty in home cinema: For the first time, the sequel trilogy is now also available in a box setWhat is this mysterious "Star Wars" project?

The hashtags make it very clear: Anthony Daniels will once again slip into the role of C3PO. But for which project? A real film seems out of the question, after all, a costume was always used in such cases and not a C3PO created on the computer. So most likely it's some kind of animated project. But it probably won't be a video game. As the post also reveals, Anthony Daniels is in the picture at Ealing Studios. This is a studio lot in west London used for film and television production and not for video game recording.

Our pick: Anthony Daniels is currently filming Star Wars: A Droid Story, a Disney+ production first announced in December 2020. At the time, however, it was not revealed whether it would be a film or a series, and to this day there has been no clear official announcement, so that conflicting information continues to circulate in this regard.

In any case, "A Droid Story" is supposed to revolve around a new protagonist who needs the help of C3PO and R2D2, who accompany him, on a secret mission. Nothing more is known about the plot. Lucasfilm and the effects forge Industrial Light & Magic want to use the project to explore the interface between animation and visual effects. So we could expect a photorealistic animated adventure that sets completely new standards.

It seems highly likely that this project will also see Anthony Daniels personally brought back on board – who else could embody C3PO? But whether "A Droid Story" is really the reason why he puts on a motion capture suit remains to be seen.

A Droid Story does not have a release date yet. However, the film or series (depending on what it ultimately becomes) will run on Disney+.
